Book Review – Diane Arbus: A Biography by Patricia Bosworth

Originally chosen to get my ‘creative juices’ flowing before my photography course in New York (at The New School (where Diane Arbus taught (which I didn’t know..))) umm where was I… THIS book turned out to be not only an inspiration for my work but super interesting in its examination of Arbus’s early life and marriage. Arbus is known for her photographs of retardates and other controversial subjects and the book covers her inspiration, concepts and technical processes without any censorship (interesting section on Arbus’s love for her menstrual cycle…) Not for the faint-hearted the story of Arbus’s life is haunted by continuous bouts of depression which end up crippling the artist to the point of her self-inflicted death. Spoiled it. Soz.

Anyway read it.
